A B O U T

Holly Hunter is a Georgia native who got her education at Carnigie Mellon University. Establishing an early friendship with the Cohen Brothers and Frances McDormand, the actress lived with them as she strived to make a break for herself.

Holly's first notable role was a supporting part in the 1984 comedy "Swing Shift". Her star was quickly launched in 1987 with acclaimed parts in "Broadcast News" (which won her her first Oscar nomination), "Raising Arizona" and "Miss Firecracker". She had lead roles in the Steven Spielberg movie "Always" in 1989; she also won an Emmy for her performance as Norma L. McCorvey in a telepicture about the Roe Vs. Wade case. In 1991 she won an Oscar for portraying Ada McGrath, a mute woman who communicates through music in "The Piano". She has since appeared in such diverse fare as "Crash" (the black comedy about people sexually aroused by car crashes, not the Oscar-winning one about race relations), "When Billie Beat Bobby" (portraying tennis champ Billie Jean King), "Thirteen" (Playing the stressed mom of a teen whose life is spiraling out of control), and "The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom" (which took an irreverent look at Wanda Holloway, a woman accused of hiring a hitman to kill a rival of her daughter's). She also voiced Helen Parr in the Disney feature "The Incredibles".

The mother of twin boys, Holly is currently portraying the complex Grace Hanadarko in the TNT dramatic series "Saving Grace".
